Circle City Aquatics is back on Top again after winning the 2011 Eastern Section Championships Meet. This end of season Dec. Invite Max meet is a meet which CCAQ has dominated over the years. They now have 4 wins and have finished second place twice at these style of meets. To make it somewhat more special, it was held by our Team and in our very own pool. It also represented the last time this meet will be held in short course – which is sad because many of the newer and younger “summer” kids may not be able to swim in it next year because of it going to long course.
It was a nail biter for most of the two days as we inched our way up from 7th to the Top spot at the end of day one, than back to 3rd after Sunday morning, and we finally reclaimed the Top soot again with about 45 minutes before the end of the meet… Thunderous applauds broke out by our supporters because the meet was ours at the moment due of the depth of our senior swimmers domineering the afternoon sessions. It was a great win for our Team and certainly the beginning of new life for us as we re-build our team.
Men’s High Point – and high points for the meet goes to Josh Nguyen (16) who won 5 individual events and gained us 172 points. Women’s High Point - goes to Morgan Aragon (15) who received five medals for her finishes and gained us 156 points. Boys High Point - went to Matthew Niculae (11) for his 4 wins and 5 medal counts while earning us 147 points. Girls High Point – went to Hanna Elliot (12) for her five medal awards and 131.5 points. Another 14 swimmers earned us more than 100 points each.
Out of some 450 individual swims by 77 swimmers, CCAQ had about 80% score points for us, 85% establish new times or improved times and 28 swimmers improved on every event they swam. Also, we only had 14 DQ’s – Disqualifications. That is probably a record also, but it shows that our coaches are doing their jobs well and the kids are learning.
There were so many Great swims that I’m not going to find “the one” which is best because they all were… For example, 40 swims were for improvements of above 10 seconds and another 40 were for 5 seconds or above in time improvements. Our Team was awarded medals or ribbons in over half of the events they entered – 249 total awards, not counting the relays which were an even higher amount.
